Evaporation:

Evaporation is approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch per day depending on weather conditions and if your pool has water features like a fountain or a spill over from a spa. Furthermore, the more that your pool is exposed to the sun and wind, the faster the water will evaporate. Heating the water will also cause more evaporation. The seasons are another factor. For example, during the autumn, winter and spring, your pool will evaporate more than in the summer due to the dry and windy conditions. During the summer months the air is saturated with moisture (humidity); therefore, preventing any more water or moisture to be absorbed. Compare the summer conditions to a sponge.
